OASIS Player Exclusion File: 380,000 Active Bans — New Analysis from the GGL

In May 2026, the central player exclusion file OASIS surpassed the 380,000 active bans mark for the first time. The GGL has published detailed analyses and player protection statistics.
The central player exclusion file OASIS (Online Player Status Query) surpassed the mark of 380,247 active bans for the first time in May 2026. This is according to the latest quarterly report from the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL), published on June 2, 2026. The figure includes both self-exclusions - players who have voluntarily withdrawn from the regulated gambling market - and third-party exclusions initiated by family members, counseling centers, or courts.
OASIS is the centerpiece of the German player protection system and has been mandatory for all GGL-licensed operators since the Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021 came into effect. Anyone registered in the database cannot open an account or make deposits with any of the approximately 60 licensed online casinos in Germany - from JackpotPiraten and OnlineCasino DE to Tipico Games and LeoVegas DE. The ban applies across all providers, making it significantly more effective than the previous operator-specific self-exclusions.
The GGL's demographic analysis is revealing: 64% of the excluded individuals are male, 34% are female, and 2% are diverse or did not specify. The largest age group is 25- to 34-year-olds, at 31%, followed by 35- to 44-year-olds with 27%. The average exclusion period is currently 14 months - self-exclusions can be set for 24 hours, one week, one month, or indefinitely, with the indefinite ban only being liftable after a three-month cooling-off period.
Particularly noteworthy is the 18% year-over-year increase in self-exclusions. Industry experts attribute this rise to two factors: the growing awareness of player protection among the general public and the significantly improved visibility of the self-exclusion function in GGL-licensed casinos. While operators like OnlineCasino DE and JackpotPiraten already display the OASIS button in the main menu, the function is only findable after several clicks on some other operators' sites - a point the GGL explicitly criticized in its analysis.
In parallel with the 380,000 OASIS bans, the supplementary system LUGAS (Cross-Provider Gambling Limit File) provides another player protection tool. LUGAS monitors the cross-provider monthly deposit limit of €1,000 per player. In May 2026, LUGAS automatically blocked approximately 27,000 deposit attempts because the monthly limit had already been reached. The GGL emphasizes that this system is unique in Europe and has not been implemented as consistently in any other country with online casino licensing.
Despite the impressive figures, the GGL also points to a worrying downside: approximately 12% of excluded players demonstrably attempted to circumvent the ban by using unlicensed foreign operators in the last quarter - particularly MGA, Curaçao, and UKGC casinos. These operators are illegal in Germany but have no access to the OASIS database and therefore cannot identify excluded players. The GGL, in collaboration with the BMI and foreign regulatory authorities, plans to significantly increase pressure on these operators in 2026/27.
For players, the key takeaway from the report is that anyone wishing to gamble legally with genuine player protection in Germany cannot bypass GGL-licensed operators. The OASIS ban should not be seen as a punitive measure, but as an effective self-help tool. Anyone who recognizes signs of problematic gambling can request an exclusion through any GGL casino or directly via the BZgA counseling center (0800 1 372 700, free and anonymous) - a measure that, according to studies, reduces the risk of relapse by over 70%.
